About This Project

Nigeria's mangrove forests represent one of the most valuable ecosystems in West Africa, providing critical habitat for biodiversity, protecting coastlines from erosion, and sequestering substantial amounts of atmospheric carbon. However, decades of deforestation and degradation have significantly reduced mangrove coverage across the Niger Delta region. This restoration project takes a community-centered approach to reversing mangrove loss. By working directly with local communities, we're not only restoring degraded mangrove areas but also creating sustainable livelihoods and building local capacity for long-term ecosystem stewardship. Our methodology combines traditional ecological knowledge with modern monitoring technology to ensure restoration success. Through this digital platform, you can explore the full scope of our work: from detailed land classification mapping showing restoration progress over time, to emission reduction calculations that quantify the climate benefits, to comprehensive project documentation that meets international carbon credit standards.
